Wall To Open For Turkey Derby '08!

It would be terrible to see Wall Stadium, as I will always call it, close its doors for good. I hear Ray Evernham is going to retire and buy a dirt track somewhere. He knows the history of Wall Stadium, and just the history alone of the drivers that have raced there; Allison, Bodine, Evans, Jarzombek, Martin, just to name a couple, sure has more history then most tracks around. Let's not let Wall Stadium disappear into the night.

Comment on Deane Mercier Dead of Apparent Heart Attack

I just can't believe it. I've been working with Deane for only a short time (3 1/2 years) at Stafford. He was truly a great mentor to me.

Comment on NASCAR Accepts Responsibility And Apologizes For Indy Race

Whoops, wait a minute, I'm still spinning here!!!

Okay, it's stopped. Nice 'we are going to get better' speech, but no mention of compensating the fans at the track who didn't really see a race, or a tire refund from Goodyear (Badweek?) for bringing such an inferior product to the race.

Obviously, the joke tire test with 3 cars proved nothing to them. They can't say set-up, tire pressure, or any other BS excuse, since 43 teams can't be all bad.

10 lap racing? That's all it was (or less, in some cases), and the fans and race teams deserve better. Press conference comments, well rehearsed on questions that were also likely rehearsed, tell us that they were dodging the real question: What about that fiasco you called a race that wasn't?

Oh, to have a listening device in their office to hear what really went on.

They should all hang their heads in shame!

From Mike: Obviously, NASCAR never sets out with the intention of putting on a bad show. Like any company, you won't make a long-term big profit with an inferior product.

But is this a matter of too little, too late? Who knows? Still, this "race" was an aberration that is very rare. NASCAR, Goodyear, and to a lesser extent, Indianapolis Motor Speedway has spent the past few days getting universally hammered, and for good reason.

Still, it's good to see NASCAR accept responsibility, and will take steps to insure that this doesn't happen again.

Comment on Hey NASCAR, can you say "Refund"?

I agree! After paying $150.00 for my seat which the price increases every year for! I walked out after the last yellow and will not go back again if NASCAR and IMS and Goodyear doesn't make it right! Brian France should of went to races instead of getting his degree in marketing. I wanted to see a race!

Comment on Hey NASCAR, can you say "Refund"?

Not only should NASCAR consider a refund to the fans, Goodyear should be forced to refund a good portion of the $1700+ that each set of these crappy tires cost the teams.

If the average citizen purchased a tire from Goodyear that performed as poorly as these 'race' tires did in this race, an immediate refund would be in order, not the purchase of another set of these inferior pieces of rubber! They had different tires on hand (800 of them!) and should have at least tried them out by giving a set to each and every team during any of the numerous competition cautions. It surely would have been a better option than placing the health and well being of these 43 racers in jeopardy.

Shame on NASCAR and shame on Goodyear. Maybe the time has come for a new 'Tire War', allowing competition amongst tire providers. It couldn't be any worse than what we sat through watching this racing fiasco!

The Indy 500 didn't have this problem, so why didn't Goodyear (and NASCAR) think of using a similar tire compound for the Cup cars?

Comment on Jimmy "The Kid" White Taken To Stony Brook Hospital After Fiery Demo Crash

While I was not at this derby, I can tell you, in 30 years of doing demo derby, I have NEVER seen a car go up like that. While I'm all for safety, there has to be a reason why the car went on fire like that. In the previous demo, his car also caught on fire.

I am more than willing to help out ANYBODY thinking about entering a demo for the first time. Walter Johnston has my email address or I can talk on the phone.

Also, has anyone heard from the Fire Marshall on why he thinks the car went up?

Hey, Jim, hope you get well soon. If you need help, shoot me a pm. And remember, no "SMOKING IN THE BOYS ROOM"!!!!

Comment on Jimmy "The Kid" White Taken To Stony Brook Hospital After Fiery Demo Crash

The latest word is that Jimmy is recovering okay, but will be spending a considerable amount of time in the hospital for treatment of his burns, some of which are 3rd degree. Visitors are encouraged, but must understand he may be in treatment and you might have to wait. Also, be considerate of his family, as they should have priority on visits.
We wish Jimmy well, and are happy to hear he will participate in racing activities once more after he is well enough to do so.

On a side note, everyone considering entry into future demo-derby's should seriously think about using all available safety gear (fire retardant clothing, etc.) before getting into a demo car. Jimmy's experience should be a wake up call to everyone to reassess their views on safety over all. Just because it's not required by the rules doesn't mean you shouldn't use what's available to protect yourself.

Comment on Jimmy "The Kid" White Taken To Stony Brook Hospital After Fiery Demo Crash

Thank you!
