George Cousin Dead From Cancer

June 19, Long Beach, NY--- Former driver George Cousin of Huntington, NY passed away on June 17th after a long battle with cancer. He was in his early 80's.

A standout at Freeport Stadium, he was non-Ford champion in 1957 and was Modified kingpin in1958-59. His 1959 title in Sal Franzese's #226 was the most dominant in Freeport's long history as he won fourteen features.

Like many of his stock car rival, he turned to TQ racing with the ATQMRA in 1962. Driving Pete Petraitus' #41, Cousin was a regular top five runner in a very tough series.

After suffering burns in a 1966 accident, George retired. He was very active in vintage racing activities. He is survived by his daughter, Jackie.

George was always a fan-favorite at Freeport, and remained very popular at our old-timers reunions, where he never missed one. He will be sorely missed.
