Anthony Frissora Wins Allison Legacy North Race

May 22, Waterford, CT--- When the green flew for the start of the 25-lap Allison Legacy North race, five of the 16 cars that took the green wrecked in turn one. That brought a complete restart. Unfortunately, the race director for the series did not provide a roster for the media to cover the race. Obviously, that will hinder our coverage of this race.
Anthony Firssora took the early lead on the green, followed by Paul Tuthill, James Logan, and Peter Portante. On lap 14, Logan got to the inside of Tuthill for the 2nd spot, as Logan was shown to be wicked fast early in the race. Meanwhile Sean Murphy had moved up to the 4th spot, as a car spun, bringing out a quick caution.
On the green, 15-year-old Peter Portante of Plainville, CT, seemed to have his throttle stick, and went head on into the turn four wall, destroying the front of his car. The track went to an immediate red flag. It was quickly learned that he was OK, even before the ambulance made its way to the scene. Portante made the obligatory walk into the ambulance to be checked out.
On the restart, the field stayed single-file, as James Logan dive bombed under Paul Tuthill Jr. for 2nd. It was now Frissora, Logan, Tuthill, and Kyle Poodiak the top four with 8 laps to go. Another spin brought out a yellow.
A yellow came out with 7 laps to go, as the track ambulance left the track with Peter Portante. Although Portante appeared to be alright, as he walked away from the scene of the wreck, the racetrack can’t operate without an ambulance. We now had to wait for a backup ambulance to show up. It took a few minutes for another ambulance to show up; however, at 8:00pm the race resumed.
It was still Frissora, Logan, Tuthill, and Poodiak for two laps, until Poodiak temporarily took the 3rd spot. However, the Tuthill fought back to 3rd with three to go. On the final lap Logan started to slow, and scrambled the finish as they crossed the line. Anthony Frissora, Paul Tuthill, James Logan were the top three.
“I ran out of gas from too many cautions, said James Logan. “It was my fault, as we were playing with it.”
“The car went away at the end,” stated Paul Tuthill. “Thanks for the 44 crew that didn’t fill it up with gas, I finished 2nd.”
“I had a good car today. I had a good race for once,” Anthony Frissora said in Victory Lane. “It was one of the longest and hardest races I’ve had for a while.”
