BREAKING NEWS! Wall To Open For Turkey Derby '08!

August 30, Belmar, NJ--- I received a shocking phone call from former Wall Township Speedway manager Jim Morton tonight, informing us that Wall will be open on their traditional Thanksgiving Weekend date for the Annual Turkey Derby.

"I spoke to Tim Shinn at 7:30 (tonight), informing me that the four members of the owners group have agreed to rent me the Speedway for Turkey Derby," stated the jubilant Morton.

The Turkey Derby has for many years been one of the biggest post-season races in the Northeast. After the stunning announcement last March that the Wall Township Speedway owners had decided to pull the plug on the 2008 racing season, and close the Speedway permanently.

The preliminary schedule will have practice dates on two Saturdays, November 15th and 22nd, as well as Tuesday, November 25th. That will lead into Turkey Derby XXXV on November 28th & 29th. Sunday, November 30th has been set aside as the rain date, if needed. All Divisions to be run are still to be determined, with more news expected next week.

Since Wall closed, Jim Morton has been working on a deal with backers to open an indoor karting arena/pub/slotcar track in New Jersey. We're grateful that one of the first calls that Jim made was to us.

"Let's hope that this is a sign of things to come," he concluded.

It would be terrible to see Wall Stadium, as I will always call it, close its doors for good. I hear Ray Evernham is going to retire and buy a dirt track somewhere. He knows the history of Wall Stadium, and just the history alone of the drivers that have raced there; Allison, Bodine, Evans, Jarzombek, Martin, just to name a couple, sure has more history then most tracks around. Let's not let Wall Stadium disappear into the night.
